Quick Verdict: The Best AI Humanizer in 2026

If you’re looking for the short answer: Walter Writes was the top scorer in our testing with an overall score of 76.25%, the only tool that evaded AI detection while writing like a real person.
Each of these ten tools, which are built to humanize AI text, was run through the same evaluation process consisting of three writing samples each: an academic essay, a blog post, and a piece of creative writing. After receiving the humanized output, we copied it into two detectors, Originality.ai and Proofademic, and scored them based on their ability to meet a six-part quality rubric.
There was one additional tool that we identified during testing that could not be scored using the same methodology. StealthGPT will be reviewed separately below in this piece.
Walter wins overall performance based on the quality of writing that was maintained throughout, in combination with detection evasion. GPTInf came close at 75.35%, but it was largely based on the quality of the detection evasion. Phrasly AI was third, at 73.67%, and can be called the best budget option in this round.
If your goal is solely focused on obtaining the highest possible detection evasion score, StealthWriter and BypassGPT scored higher than Walter on that single metric, at 96.2% and 94.2%. Both came with a real cost: weak and sometimes broken writing quality.
Below is a comparison chart for all tools tested, followed by how we tested each tool. Then there are sections devoted to each individual tool.

How We Tested (Methodology)
Evaluation Approach
We ran three writing samples, which included an academic essay, a blog post, and a piece of creative writing, completely generated by AI, through each tool built to humanize AI text. We then sent each tool’s outputs through two AI detectors: Originality.ai and Proofademic. We chose these two because students and editors actually check against them, not because they are the strictest option available.
Test Samples Used:
Each of the same three sample sources was evaluated using every tool to produce direct comparisons. You can view the original AI samples and the humanized outputs for each tool in the individual breakdowns below.

How We Scored Quality
Humanized samples were scored on a scale from 1 to 30 based on their performance in these six areas:
- Readability and Natural Flow
- Accuracy and Preservation of Meaning
- Coherence and Logic
- Grammar and Mechanics
- Word Choice
- Tone Consistency
How We Calculated the Overall Score
Detection evasion and quality were weighted equally. Overall Score equals the Detection Evasion Score plus the Quality Score, divided by two. A tool that guts readability to bypass AI detection scores lower here than one that balances both.
Testing Limitations
- Free tier caps forced fragmented testing. Free tier limits caused us to have to test samples as multiple small segments due to many scanning tools limiting free scans to less than half of our sample size. Humbot AI, BypassGPT, and GPTInf were among those.
- Signup friction affected testing time. Phrasly does not accept temporary email addresses, so every scan chunk needed a fresh real signup. Humbot AI has an approximately 100-word limit for each scan, and BypassGPT is limited to about 80 words for each scan. Testing all three against approximately 1400 words of source material resulted in approximately 30 sign-ups.
- Undetectable AI’s fully undetectable mode required a card. The fully undetectable version of Undetectable AI requires signing up for a free trial where you have to give your card details. So we used their basic mode for testing purposes. According to the vendor’s own site, there is a warning about basic mode possibly being detected.
- One tool could not be scored on this rubric at all. StealthGPT is covered in its own section below, for reasons specific to it.
- We publish this comparison, and we sell one of the tools in it. Walter Writes is our own product. In order to reduce this potential conflict of interest, each tool was evaluated using the identical three-sample test, and the results were scored against the exact same rubric used for Walter. Instead of selecting some subset of results, we have made all of the evaluation results available in this article, including those where one or more competitors outperformed Walter in one of the areas. See the rankings, keeping this relationship in mind.

3. Phrasly AI: Best for a Simple, Balanced Option

Phrasly is built for people who want a simple humanizer without a learning curve. The tool has three different modes: easy, medium, and aggressive, and during the test phase, we used the aggressive mode in all cases. It also uses two models: Ultra and Balanced. The Ultra model is only accessible through a paid subscription, so during testing, we used the Balanced model.
See our full Phrasly review for the detailed teardown.
Testing Results
- Quality Score: 65.5%
- Detection Evasion: 81.85%
- Overall Score: 73.67% (third highest of all 10 tools tested)
Pros
- One of the more budget-friendly options in this test
- Strong specifically on academic and blog content
- Simple three-mode interface, no token math
Cons
- One free account per person, and temporary email addresses are blocked, so getting through even a short article took multiple signups.
- Free tier caps humanization at 300 words, even though the interface displays an 800-word capacity
- Weaker on creative writing than on academic or blog content

4. BypassGPT: Best for Fast, Low-Effort Bypass

The three rewrite modes available for use with BypassGPT are fast, creative, and enhanced. The enhanced mode was tested exclusively during testing.
Testing Results
- Quality Score: 47.6%
- Detection Evasion: 94.2% (second highest of all 10 tools tested)
- Overall Score: 70.9%
Pros
- Strong detection evasion, especially on academic and blog content
- Three distinct modes to choose from, letting you tune how aggressively the rewrite pushes
Cons
- Grammar and word choice were consistently weak across all three samples.
- BypassGPT’s marketing claims its software can paraphrase in over 50 different languages. The vendor’s own site currently lists 32. We tested only the free tier in English, so we can’t speak to how well it performs in any of them.
- Its interface shows there is a 125-word limit for scanning, but the actual free scanning cuts off at approximately 80 words. Completing all 3 of these test samples using the free version took multiple attempts at signing up.

5. StealthWriter: Best for Raw Detection Evasion

The 10 rewrite options on StealthWriter are based on a “rewrite” scale from least to most, with the highest level producing the heaviest rewrite and the most variation. In testing, we ran it on level 10 along with the Ghost 5.2 Mini Model, one of the four models offered. The free version of StealthWriter provides 1000 words per scan and 10 humanizations per day after signing up.
Testing Results

6. HIX Bypass: Best for Multilingual Text

HIX Bypass bundles a humanizer and a detector into one workspace and supports a wide range of languages, along with a Chrome extension and API. The three modes offered by HIX Bypass are fast, aggressive, and latest. Aggressive mode was chosen to provide the strongest possible rewritten output. There was no apparent scanning limit reached during testing, so it cannot be determined if there is a scan limit within the free tier.
Testing Results
- Quality Score: 40%
- Detection Evasion: 90.4%
- Overall Score: 65.2%
Pros
- Strong detection evasion across all three content types

7. Humbot AI: Best for Quick Short-Form Rewrites

Humbot AI is built for short, fast rewrites, and long documents are not its strength. It offered options of “expand” and “shorten” settings, and neither option was checked, but when we used the tool, it added expanded information that wasn’t requested. A 440-word academic essay came back at 1,240 words, and a 500-word blog post came back at 1,400 words, with no expand setting selected.
Testing Results
- Quality Score: 46.6%
- Detection Evasion: 43.5%
- Overall Score: 45.05%
Pros
- Simple, fast interface for short snippets
- Decent grammar and coherence on shorter samples
Cons
- Unexpectedly expanded both test samples well beyond their original length without an expand setting chosen.
- Detection evasion was inconsistent. One sample scored 100% AI on Originality.ai.
- The free tier only allows 100 words per scan, requiring repeated sign-ups for longer content.

One Tool We Looked At But Could Not Score - StealthGPT

StealthGPT came up during testing but is not part of the ranking above.
StealthGPT provides you with an initial humanization score once your content has been processed, but if you do not have access to one of their paid levels, it will not provide you with the actual humanized version of the text. On all of Stealth’s free and basic options, you can see a claimed score but never the output itself. Since the entire purpose of our test was based on us being able to read and review each AI-generated piece of content, StealthGPT cannot be reviewed using the exact same criteria as the other 10 tools, so it does not appear in these rankings.
The prices for StealthGPT range from $24.99 per month for 50,000 words to $149.99 per month for 1,000,000+ words.
Best For Each Use Case

Not all use cases will fit within a broad-based overall ranking. There are only a few use cases that have enough merit to be considered as standalone items.
Best overall: Walter Writes. The best overall tool tested is Walter Writes since it is the only one that offered both high-quality detection evasion capabilities and quality writing output.
Best for evading detection: GPTInf. Its 90.7%detection evasion was the second highest of any tool tested, though quality landed in the middle of the pack. Also, the free tier only shows the first 300 humanized words at a time, so longer documents need to be scanned in multiple pieces.
Best for writing quality: Undetectable AI. With a 71% average quality score, it produced the highest quality ratings of any of the tools tested. But its detection evasion was extremely poor.
Best for long documents: StealthWriter. Its higher-tier plans allow up to 5,000 words per input, more headroom than most of the other tools in this test for a single long piece.
Quality and detection evasion pull most tools in opposite directions, strong on one, weak on the other. Walter Writes was the only tool in this test that delivered both at once.
What an AI Humanizer Is and How It Works?

An AI humanizer rewrites AI-generated text so it reads as if a person wrote it. This includes breaking down robotic sentence formats, changing the rhythmic flow of the text to read as if it was spoken naturally, and replacing formal terminology with how people actually speak.
You may have drafted content using ChatGPT, Claude, or another type of AI tool, which is why you probably understand the disconnect. The information itself was correct, but the tone was off. Your writing sounds identical to many other drafts created from these AIs, and both universities and editors use technology such as Turnitin, Proofademic, and Originality.ai specifically to detect those repetitive AI patterns.
A good AI humanizer will scan the original text first for over-formality, too much repetition in sentence rhythm, multiple transitional phrases, and generic language that a specific example would replace.
Then the humanizer reviews at the sentence level, replacing formal jargon with common terminology, and combining short and long sentences to eliminate a monotonous rhythm in the rewritten version.
A second aspect of this tool is its ability to understand the context. A college essay doesn’t need to have the tone of a SaaS landing page, so the humanizer adjusts based on audience, purpose, and where the article is going to get published. Context-aware humanization is what makes the output feel like it actually belongs in the piece. If you’re writing academic material specifically, our guide on making essays undetectable goes deeper.
Ultimately, what you want to read at the end is something you could easily read aloud with natural rhythm, containing no repetitive sentences that AIs are able to detect and consistent with what the original text actually meant to say.
Basic paraphrasers that just swap synonymous words do not work well here, because they don’t change the core structure of the sentences. What makes a humanizing tool successful and one that fails is whether or not it changes both cadence and sentence structure as opposed to merely changing the vocabulary used to bypass AI detection.
For a deeper look at how these tools work under the hood, see our full guide to AI humanizers.
Free Versus Paid: What Actually Changes

Every tool in this test has some kind of free option, but free means very different things depending on the tool.
TextHumanizer.com is completely free to use with no sign-up requirements as long as your monthly total does not exceed 100 humanizations. This would be perfectly suitable for an individual looking to perform a limited number of occasional, low-risk rewrites.
All other tools have much tighter restrictions on their free tiers. They are typically limited by either the length of the document scanned or the number of times the user can run the scanning function. Humbot AI’s 100-word cap and BypassGPT’s roughly 80-word cap resulted in slow test times when scanning full samples, as we had to create multiple accounts in order to complete a single piece with either tool.
In general, paid subscription levels allow users to access higher word caps per scan, more scans per month, or in some cases to utilize a truly superior model or version. Undetectable AI is the clearest example. The basic level of Undetectable AI was unable to evade detection in our tests, but the company claims that their stealth model will successfully avoid detection. However, we were unable to test it without divulging card information.
If evading detection is all you want from your tool, then using a locked-down free tier that shows less than half the ability of what the tool can do isn’t going to be a fair representation of how well the tool will work.
Which Tool Fits Your Situation?
Depends:
- Submitting academic work you can’t afford to get flagged: use Walter Writes. It’s the only tool here that pairs real detection evasion with writing that still reads naturally.
- Only care about beating the detector and don’t mind rough prose: StealthWriter (96.2%) or BypassGPT (94.2%) beat Walter on raw evasion, but grammar suffers for it.
- Care more about writing quality than evasion, say you’re editing the output yourself before you submit it: Undetectable AI scored highest on quality at 71%, though its free tier barely dents detection.
- Tight on budget or don’t want another signup: Phrasly AI costs less, and TextHumanizer.com needs no signup at all.
- Working in a language other than English: none of the ten tools here were tested outside English, so treat every evasion score as an English-only result.
How to Get the Best Results From Any Humanizer
A few things matter more than which tool you pick.
- Match the tool to your risk. If your submissions are intended to be used in academic settings, then try testing them through Turnitin, Originality.ai, or Proofademic, and don’t test them with generic checkers. There are many different types of detection tools, but not all are designed to detect the same level of academic AI detection.
- Read the output before you submit it. Tools may evade detection by AI, but they can still produce poorly written content. Grammar, tone, and coherence, as well as the score, are all equally important.
- Check the real word caps before committing. Most free trials cut you off sooner than they advertise, and some tools show a scanned-word limit that is lower than the humanized-word count.
- Confirm multilingual support if you need it. The majority of the tools are tuned for English language only. Try testing your tool with a piece of content in your target language before making a purchase on a plan.
- Test with your own writing first. Take a sample, paste it into a tool, and see what comes back from it. Then check it in an AI detector as well. If the readability holds up and the score drops, that is your answer, not a marketing page.
Final Verdict
Walter Writes AI humanizer was the strongest overall performer in this test, at 76.25%, the only tool that combined real detection evasion with readability that held up across all three sample types.
GPTInf was the closest runner-up with a total score of 75.35% due largely to its high detection rates. So if you need a humanizer that can evade detection as much as possible but will also provide decent-quality output, then it may be worth a try.
For those writers looking to rewrite essays, blogs, or professional copy and want their rewritten content to read reasonably well, Walter Writes clearly emerged as the best option in our round of testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which AI Can I Use to Humanize Text?
Walter Writes is the strongest overall pick for humanizing text, especially for essays and professional copy, followed by GPTInf and Phrasly AI for shorter pieces. A real humanizer works by removing repetitive sentence structures, adjusting sentence rhythms, and maintaining the original message of your content. Instead of simply replacing words with synonyms, Walter Writes alters the way that sentences move. This is part of what contributed to its overall high score of 76.25% compared to nine others in our review.
How Can I Humanize AI Content?
You can quickly run your AI-generated content through a humanizer like Walter Writes. The whole process will take mere seconds and alter the pace and rhythm of your content, but will not replace individual words. This is why we found that Walter Writes was able to achieve 83.5% in terms of avoiding detection, while achieving a 69% rating in terms of quality in our testing. For a single short piece, you can also do a manual pass on top, eliminate robotic transitions between sentences, expand or contract sentence lengths, include at least one specific personal detail, and then read it out loud before submitting.
Which AI Humanizer Tool Is Best?
Walter Writes is the best AI humanizer. It scored 76.25% overall in our testing, the highest number among all the other tools. This effectiveness comes from its ability to evade detection while still producing writing quality suitable for use in academic, blog, or creative writing. GPTInf was second at 75.35%, driven mainly by its detection evasion score, not its writing quality. At 73.67%, Phrasly AI is a viable budget alternative, but it did not provide as much overall performance as Walter Writes.
Is There a Legit AI Humanizer?
Yes, Walter Writes is a legitimate option. What makes it legit is that it is tested against a published method, with stated limitations and a disclosed conflict of interest since we publish this comparison and sell the tool, and it still scored highest overall at 76.25%. The honest use case is improving flow and tone, not guaranteeing you will bypass AI detection every time. If you are submitting academic work, check your institution’s policy on AI-assisted writing before you rely on any tool.
Which AI Humanizer Passes Turnitin?
No humanizer can be guaranteed to pass Turnitin. On 27 August 2025, Turnitin added detection of AI bypasser tools, and it has updated its model twice since. A method that passes today can be flagged after the next update. Our September 2026 tests used Originality.ai and Proofademic, not Turnitin. On those, Walter Writes averaged 83.5% detection evasion and scored highest overall. Any pass rate is a snapshot. It’s not a long-term promise or guarantee.
How Do You Make AI Text Undetectable?
The fastest route is using a good humanizer like Walter Writes and running your AI-generated content through it. You can also try rewriting your original prompt to eliminate obvious signs of AI generation from the start. Manual paraphrasing by hand is the slowest but the most reliable since you control every sentence. This will likely take longer than the previous two methods because you are doing all of the work yourself. As always, there is no method to prevent detection completely because the people who create detection tools continually update their algorithms. Do not waste your time trying to think of tricks such as creating sentences with intentionally incorrect grammar. The goal should be to produce writing that is readable and capable of being defended. For a detailed view on this, see How to Make ChatGPT Sound Human.
Is AI Humanizer Legit?
Yes, AI humanizers, including Walter Writes, are valid tools. While no tool can be completely safe against all detectors, it does not mean they do not work. There is also a big divide within the space for these types of products, as some rewrite sentences to an extent that you lose all sense of what was originally written, while other such as Walter, simply allow for adjustments in pace and rhythm to keep the writing readable. The legitimate use of humanizers is to assist with flow and readability at scale when manual editing of each sentence would be impractical. For a single short piece, manual editing is a reasonable alternative, just not the faster option.
