Our Story: Why we created Walter

Walter Writes AI was founded by Kevin Walter Moore, a seasoned copywriter and digital strategist who faced a growing problem: AI tools could generate content, but they couldn’t make it human. The writing often felt stiff, robotic, and failed to reflect the nuance, tone, or intent of the original voice, and worse, it was getting flagged by detectors.

Across classrooms in the United States and Canada, content teams in the United Kingdom, and student groups in Australia, one challenge kept repeating: well-written work was being mislabeled as AI, and genuine ideas were being held back by detection software that couldn’t distinguish creativity from code.

Kevin set out to build a new kind of tool, one that combined cutting-edge AI detection with human-like rewriting. The goal was simple: help people share their thoughts naturally and confidently, without fear of false positives or robotic results.

We continue building tools that help writers review AI-assisted work, improve clarity, and keep their own voice at the center of the process.

Because writing should
sound like you, not a machine.

Frequently asked questions.

Answers about detection accuracy, bias, and responsible use.

How accurate is AI text detection in 2026?

Accuracy varies with the detector, language, text length, and type of writing. A score is an estimate, not proof of authorship. Evaluate results on examples that match your use case and review the writing alongside its drafts and context.

Are AI detectors biased against non-native English writers?

They can be. A 2023 study in Patterns found that the detectors tested frequently misclassified essays by non-native English writers. Those results do not establish Walter’s performance. Review flagged writing in context and never use a detection score alone to judge a writer. Read the study.

Can students cheat by paraphrasing?

Rewriting can change a detector’s result, so a low score cannot establish that work meets an institution’s rules. Students should follow their course policy, acknowledge permitted AI assistance, and keep drafts that show their own thinking.

Does the detector trigger on AI-assisted but human-edited writing?

It can. Detection tools do not reliably reconstruct who wrote or edited each passage. Treat a result as a prompt for review, and consider revision history and the writer’s explanation alongside it.

How do you handle false positives in production?

Build human review into your workflow. Keep the original text and relevant context, avoid automatic penalties based on a score, and provide a way for writers to challenge a result. Test your chosen thresholds on representative samples before relying on them.

Will the detector work on text from the next major LLM it hasn't seen yet?

Performance on an unseen model cannot be guaranteed. New models, editing techniques, and writing styles can change detection results. Re-evaluate your workflow as the tools and content you review change.
