Frequently asked questions.

Quick answers about safety, privacy, and how the extension works.

Are Chrome extensions safe?

Walter only reads text when you explicitly invoke it (a click, shortcut, or right-click menu). It never reads pages in the background. The text-handling code is open-source, and the extension passed Chrome Web Store’s enhanced review.

Does the extension work offline?

Partly. Grammar and short-text checks under 200 words run in your browser and work offline. Humanizing, AI detection, plagiarism, and longer grammar checks need a connection, since they call our API.

Can my employer block it?

Yes. Like any extension, an organization can block or allowlist Walter through managed Chrome policies. If it’s blocked on your work profile, it still works on a personal Chrome profile.

Does it work in Incognito?

Only if you turn it on. Chrome disables extensions in Incognito by default; you can enable Walter at chrome://extensions. It works the same way there and still only sends text when you invoke it.
